This lecture will present a rare illuminated manuscript from Venice part of the JMG Historical Collection acquired in 1994. The manuscript, dated 1642-1724, besides its historical value on the attitude of Venetian Authorities towards the petition of the Jewish Community of Corfu for protection against vandalisms, holds a very interesting artistic allure.

The second meeting of Jewish Italy Around the World will be held on Zoom on Thursday, December 11 at 6:30 PM (Italian Time) and will feature the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. This lecture will present a phenomenon of mutual artistic influence between the Jewish communities in the Land of Israel and Italy—an “artistic correspondence” in the genre of representations of the holy sites in illuminated manuscripts.
The most prominent and oldest example of this genre is the Florence Scroll, a monumental 11-meter scroll documenting the pilgrimage of an Egyptian Jew through the holy sites in the Land of Israel in the 14th century.
