The specialized MEIS library was established in March 2016 and holds approximately 6,000 volumes, mostly dedicated to Jewish topics; these are made available to its users.

The main topics feature: history of religions, history of the Jews in Italy, Jewish history and culture, Jewish art, Jewish literature, the Shoah, anti-Semitism, racial persecution, fascism, Jewish communities, Israel. Specialized magazines and journals are also available for reference.

There is also a section of recently published books for young readers, the topics ranging from short stories and comic strips to essays with insights on Judaism, history, and fiction.

The purpose of the library is to collect and preserve national and foreign publications on the history of the Jews in Italy, to document the main works published on the history of Jewish thought and culture in our country, disseminating and make them available; and the body of this library is constantly growing thanks to generous private book fund donations.

The MEIS book collection is an important part of the Museum’s great memorial and historical-identity project.

The Library, part of the Polo Bibliotecario Ferrarese (Ferrarese Library Center), also provides its users with assistance in using the cataloguing and bibliographical research tools as well as useful information for study, teaching and research.
